Summary
I joined Hugecalf Studios as a UI programmer for Turbo Golf Racing in 2023. Turbo Golf Racing is a mashup of racing and golf, available on Xbox Series, Steam and Playstation. It has attracted over 1 million players since releasing on Xbox Game Pass!
In this role, I worked alongside other programmers, implementing and refactoring multiple UI systems across the entire game, including the in-game scoreboard, tutorial, shop, car customisation, and HUD for the new 1v1 & 8-player Golf mode. Using Microsoft Azure and PlayFab, I implemented a new rotating shop system with a loot chest that can be claimed daily with free in-game currency. I also implemented a rotating events system, allowing seasonal events in the game to automatically cycle on the client, server and Cloud. This provides players with new content and challenges without requiring input from the developers.
I also worked on platform-specific systems, such as a report system for the PS5 release of the game. By working on TGR I learned a lot about working closely with console platforms and being conscious of their specific requirements.
